Relatable Moments with Darwin: A Cartoon Character Analysis

Daily writing prompt
Who is your favorite cartoon character?

Call it childish, but my favorite character from any cartoon is Darwin from The Amazing World of Gumball. Darwin starts as a goldfish who grows legs after his little boy’s father flushes him down the toilet. His adventure to get back to his friend Gumball is wacky, to say the least, but once he does, Darwin is treated like family. Literally. Gets cereal for breakfast and everything. Even though Darwin is the sidekick in this mountain of stories, I can’t help but relate to the way he teeters on that line between being a good kid and all the mischief/ridiculousness his brother Gumball gets him into. My favorite situation is when Gumball creates a series of bad situations out of jealousy of another student. In one particular situation, Gumball asks, “Am I going too far with this?”

Darwin closes his eyes, sighs, and says, “No, you went too far seven hours ago. Now you’re going to prison.”

Even as someone who hates trouble, I can definitely see something like this slipping off my tongue. There’s a fine line between being a bro and being brutally honest.
