Who Needs the King’s Horses (Humpty Dumpty)

Daily writing prompt
Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.

I don’t consider this a DIY, but it was the most ambitious project I have taken on. Once, I found two empty eggshells someone had painted with Japanese caligraphy at a garage sale. One was in display condition, while the other was a few pieces short of a jigsaw. Then, an idea danced through my extraordinary little mind. I paid the teller, and once home, I abducted a jar of Vaseline plus a pair of tweezers and locked my bedroom door.

For hours, I lay on the carpet, applying small amounts of Vaseline to the chipped pieces of egg, reattaching them to what remained of the egg’s base. Thrilling was the only way I could describe the task that interested me. Moments when I came close to completing my task, pieces fell off, or eggshell bits broke in two.

Similar to the bait and stick method, I felt a sense of reward and punishment with each success and failure. By the time I was satisfied, daylight had turned to early dusk. Upon showing my mom, she seemed shocked to see it completed. After which, she asked if that was her vaseline holding it together.
