“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose/ By any other name would smell as sweet.” Call it personal preference, but William Shakespeare nailed a name’s purpose in his stage Tragedy, Romeo and Juliet.
What’s in a name that makes one so fond? Does the sound tease our ears and minds with illusions of dancing fae? Or does its essence fill our souls with pride like we were humankind’s last chance on Earth?
Answer: Our name is a facet of us. Proud and graceful, tart and pleasing, or vigorous and kind, regardless of meaning, significance, or etymology, we make the most of our name.
Were a rose given any other name, she would still pinch for attention in a bouquet of sweet flowers.
Roxanne
Meaning: dawn Origin: Persian
Although not my actual name, I decided to look into my pen name since my birth name is not in the
name books.
Roxanne means “dawn” and is typically associated with the Greek name Roxanē. Suited for babies
born during the most promising hour of the day, I like to think the name Roxanne carries hope and
wonder.
